Hello everyone, I have a personal announcement. I will be pausing my engagement on osquery for at least 6 months while I try to focus on recruiting and building another product security team within Facebook security. But tl;dr, expect nothing to change much for the project. Mitchell Grenier (
@obelisk) and Nick Anderson (
@thor) are the formal Facebook osquery project maintainers and leads. They've been running the show for osquery internally and helping the open source community for all of 2017, and they plan to do so going forward with the same dedication and fever!
The community involvement is stronger than it ever has been! Keep this up, and as I always say, if you're looking to contribute please take time to perform code reviews, answer questions in GitHub issues, and help make the documentation clear and inviting. On our side we will be working towards making contributions more autonomous.
To all my friends and fellow osquery developers, it's been a wonderful time! I've learned a lot from you and I'm deeply thankful for your time and knowledge. You and the community at large are the coolest and best thing about this project. I will still be around, and will still commit here and there, but not part of my day or night job, just as a fellow community member. Over the last year I've seen myself as the 'project janitor' (my self-given preferred title, haha!) and I'm happy to continue to play that role but for much less-critical and less-complex changes.
I'll end with a shameless plug for the detection team developing osquery at Facebook, join our team and come work with exceptional people who have huge hearts, love to code, and love security as much as you do!
