forgive me, I'm feeling stupid - I can get a sandbox up and running fine, however I wanted to get a permanent install running, the documentation for "deploy to a server" looks a bit outdated (ubuntu 16) I think and talks about running "fleet prepare db" which doesnt even seem to be an option for fleetctl - any clues please ?

Hi, @Jay! There shouldn't be an issue using a newer version of Ubuntu.
And as far at the command goes, it's available in
fleet
itself rather than the
fleetctl
CLI.

is it fleetctl I should be using from https://github.com/fleetdm/fleet/releases ?
ah, you beat me to it, okay, I'll try and find the fleet command 😄

In releases, it's the
fleet_v4.17.0_linux.tar.gz
option :)

I also found it very difficult to follow the Ubuntu instructions, so I wrote it up here. Please excuse the company blog (it’s really just me) and do check - I discovered some mistakes and have not had time to verify everything https://servicemax.com.au/tips/fleetdm-and-osquery-on-ubuntu-with-lego-and-letsencrypt/

Thanks so much, @Adam Connor! We're working on getting those instructions updated and I'll definitely be referencing this :)

@Kathy Satterlee - steal away! The number of issues with the current docs would really turn off a lot of ‘hobbyists’, when in fact it wasn’t that difficult to run. I’m loving Fleet and my intention was to give these docs back to you when properly tested, I just haven’t had time
