Thanks Seph - and I agree that you're right. There's nothing wrong with your archive. Something has happened on a few of our systems and I'm looking into it. I appreciate the link to the archive for comparison.

Launcher doesn’t have a lot of cleverness in the updates. There is, unfortunately, not currently a retry. You can probably force it to notice the new version by removing the TUF repo from disk, and restarting. (It will then reconstruct it, and notice a change). But I don’t think I’ve explicitly tested that.

Thanks, I'll try some things and let you know what I find out. Also part of my problem was I didn't realize that "stable" is still version 4.7.0 (or at least that's the version reported in a --version after unpacking it). So I did have some successful binary replacements and didn't even realize it.

Oh, indeed. I should probably push 4.8.0 to kolide stable.
